Sheryl Martin has a long career with bowling alleys, first in Pasadena and then taking over management of the AMF Bowling Square in Arcadia about ten years ago.
And AMF Bowling Square has a 45-year history with the Arcadia Chamber since becoming a member in 1970.
On Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, Arcadia Chamber President Andrew Gregson of The Executive Factor and Arcadia Mayor Gary Kovacic presented Sheryl with certificates of congratulations and recognition for what Sheryl is calling an Xtreme Makeover of the long-popular facility at 1020 S. Baldwin Avenue. The ceremony also included a ribbon-cutting on the bowling lanes.

More than three dozen Arcadia Chamber executives, board directors, Ambassadors, and members were on hand to applaud the presentation of additional certificates to Sheryl from Congresswoman Judy Chu, State Senator Dr. Ed Hernandez, Assembly Member Ed Chau, and L.A. County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.
Arcadia Chamber CEO Scott Hettrick pointed out all the recent improvements to the facility, including all new HD video and scoring screens above all the comfortable new seating, as well as the new carpeting and newly-painted walls. When he asked the attendees how many had bowled here in the past, more than half raised their hands, but most had not visited in a number of years and were glad to be reintroduced to the facility that sparked wonderful memories many said they would likely try to revive soon.
Hettrick introduced Sheryl who thanked Arcadia Chamber President-Elect and Friend Vicki Knight of Century Rooter Service and Plumbing and Chamber Member Director Lisa Ferrick for their help with the event.
Sheryl noted the refurbished pro shop and bar and grill and pointed out a wall in the process of being removed that will open up the main lobby area to the billiards room and bar. She said the downstairs “1020 Lounge” with its own entrance and sub-leased off-and-on to various lounge operators is not currently in use.
She then presented a buffet of delicious chicken wings, mozzarella sticks and more exclusively and free for attendees of the Chamber event. She also offered several lanes of free bowling (and shoe rentals), which more than a dozen took advantage of, including Knight, Hettrick, new Ambassador Naomi Briones of Embassy Suites Arcadia. and Chris Vivian of Giggle Fiber who slaughtered VIcki and Scott with his wicked ball spin!
Among the offerings of Bowling Square are glow-in-the-dark bowling by reservation and bumper guards that can be popped up by request. Bowling Square is happy to help host birthday parties and corporate events, as well as fundraisers and bowling for clubs, leagues, and just plain fun.
