From Italy With Love – “Fine Evening” and Fine Wines at Bella Sera – by Mike Lucas
Serving up its reputation as the finest modern Italian restaurant in the San Gabriel Valley, Bella Sera Trattoria in Monrovia will host two flavorful and fun special events as part of Dine Arcadia 2021.
Also, diners may drop in any time during the two-week Dine Arcadia festivities and ask for the special three-course dinner with wine simply by mentioning “Dine Arcadia.”
Owner and host Joe Borelli has been pleasing hungry diners for more than a decade on Myrtle Street, especially families who drop in often to enjoy his signature homemade pasta, pizza dough and sausages, with their authentic taste of vecchia Italia. The pizza dough is famed for its sourdough starter that has been nurtured for many years.
“This really is the best Italian you can find in this area,” said general manager Mike Wissmann, who, incidentally, is a native of Arcadia and a LaSalle High School grad. “People come in for the pizza, the fish, and our great dishes like short ribs ragu with pappardelle noodles.”
“We also have an incredible wine selection. One of the real favorites is Lagaria Pinot Grigio,” he said. That’s a light-bodied white wine from Veneto, one of Italy’s most popular growing regions.
“It’s extremely simple but well made… a refreshing pour for large, informal gatherings,” said Kerin O’Keefe of Wine Enthusiast.
The first Dine Arcadia special event is Wine and Appetizer Night, on Tuesday, Sept. 21. Guests will enjoy a selection of the house specialty appetizers and tastings of four wines: a chardonnay, Pinot, a rosé and a white wine. Tickets are $30.
Next up will be a festive five-course Wagner Family Wine Dinner, at 5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 26, featuring wines from the fabled Napa Valley Wagner family of Rutherford, Calif. It will be presented al fresco and next to the whimsical bubbling fountain on the Bella Sera’s dining patio. Tickets are $130.
For the entire two weeks of Dine Arcadia, you drop in any time you like and ask for the three-course $75 special.
The Dine Arcadia special includes ahi poke with quinoa and heirloom tomatoes with Sea Sun Chardonnay; truffle mac and cheese with Sea Sun Pinot Noir; oso bucco with Bonanza Cabernet Sauvignon and tiramisu for dessert.
The menu for the Wagner Family Wine Dinner:
First Course – Lobster corn dog, served with a creole creamy mustard, paired with Emmolo Sparkling Wine.
Second Course – Ahi poke with quinoa and heirloom tomatoes, paired with Sea Sun Chardonnay.
Third Course – Truffle mac & cheese, paired with Sea Sun Pinot Noir.
