Less than a week being introduced to new Arcadia Chamber of Commerce member Go Gadget at the Ambassadors meeting— like an auto repair shop but for your mobile devices — for the first time in years I found myself in need of quick service from a place just like this.
During a Mother’s Day excursion to Big Bear Lake, I decided to borrow a kayak I saw on the shoreline and go for a joy ride. Great idea and the ride was fabulous except that when I returned to shore and was trying to dismount, the kayak tipped and I went sideways and my phone went into the two-foot-deep water. It laid there in the sediment for several minutes while I waited for the water to clear so I could see it.
I tried blow-drying it, and when I got home we put it in rice overnight. Still nothing. In somewhat urgent need of a cell phone, on Monday morning I looked up Go Gadget’s e-mail and phone number on our Arcadia Chamber web site (626-342-6165 / firstname.lastname@example.org). Harry told me to come on in at 10 a.m. Checking the web site again, I paid a visit to Harry at Go Gadget’s shop at 918 S. Baldwin Avenue, just north of Fairview, assuming the phone was a lost cause but hoping they could at least retrieve some of most of the data before I bought a new phone.
To my surprise and delight, a couple of hours later Harry said the phone was completely repaired and not a single bit of data lost. Wow! How much did it cost to perform this magic? Only $49 — their standard rate for water-damaged devices. Wow! They even replaced the battery, which was apparently the only thing in the phone that got so damaged that it was unrecoverable.
Phew, Harry is forever Inspector Gadget to me. And that’s service that I can recommend highly! In fact, I suggest you Go to Go Gadget… Go! (Yes, Harry was a fan of the cartoon series that he watched every day after school.)
