For the month of November we are featuring Maria Elena Ybarra from NYC/Buenos Aires who has been in the tango scene as a tango teacher/performer for more than 15 years. She is wealth of knowledge & experience. It’s exciting to announce that Yuli & Maria will teach & perform together for the first time at Querida!

MARIA ELENA YBARRA
Maria Elena Ybarra is a professional tango dancer from Argentina who has been dancing for over fifteen years. Her traditional technique has been influenced by great Argentine Tango teachers such as Carlos and Maria Rivarola, Carlos and Rosa Perez, and Natalia Games and Gabriel Angio.

She has taught tango in Buenos Aires and throughout the US, participating in several festivals and workshopst: Boston Tango Festival, Valentango, Portland-Oregon, Denver Labor Day Tango Festival, Princeton Tango Festival, Ann Arbor Fire & Ice Tango Festival, Portland October Fest, Tango Sutra DC, Albuquerque Tango Festival, San Diego Tango Festival, and Tango Element. She has also taught workshops at CU Tango-Illinois, University of Texas at Austin and Vanderbilt University, as well as regular classes at Yale, Princeton, and Columbia University.

This past year, Maria Elena has been on tour, teaching and performing along with Facundo Barrionuevo and two great argentine musicians from Buenos Aires – Eduardo Tami and Leandro Marquesano – taking their show to Syracuse, Maryland, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Missouri.

Maria Elena’s classes are clear, dynamic, and fun providing her students with a solid but versatile technique. As both a leader and follower, her dance is elegant yet earthy and playful. She lives in New York City and Buenos Aires; where she teaches, performs and dances.

DJ Jerry Perez will be spinning his tango tunes that same Friday.
