The concert will feature music from the Sakura Cello Quintet’s debut album, Clair de lune, which brings together the best and most beloved cello arrangements from SAKURA’s wide-ranging collection of repertoire. The album spans centuries, from iconic film scores like John Williams’s Star Wars and Joe Hisaishi’s Howl’s Moving Castle to Renaissance madrigals by Orlando Gibbons and Carlo Gesualdo. “These are pieces that we have honed and polished over the years, and they all hold deep meaning for us” says Michael Kaufman.
“When the ensemble approaches repertoire selections, each work is reimagined with reverence and imagination,” says cellist and arranger Peter Myers. “We aim to preserve the spirit of the original while highlighting the expressive power of five cellos. Our goal is to get inside the mind of the original composer, to understand the musical intention while also offering a fresh and inspiring perspective.”
