Mission
Position Summary
The Board’s purpose is to govern and set policy for the Chamber, support its mission, have responsibility for its finances, and direct its activities. Board members are expected to participate in specific activities and provide leadership to the organization. Board Members are expected to fully support the mission of the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce.
Responsibilities and Expectations
Attendance: Attends and is actively involved in monthly Board meetings, the Strategic Planning meeting, and supports ACC events, including, but not limited to, the Annual ACE Awards, Annual Golf Tournament, Taste of Arcadia event, and monthly networking events, by either sponsorship or attendance.
Leadership: Brings leadership qualities that enhance the effectiveness of the Chamber, including establishing policy and approving procedures. Expected to promote the Chamber within the community and encourage businesses to join the Chamber.
Training: Attends a Board of Directors orientation.
Financial: Participates in discussions about the Chamber’s finances, including voting on approval of the Chamber’s budget and the financial merits of activities and events.
Participation: Works constructively and harmoniously with other Board members and staff, represents the Chamber at appropriate functions when requested by the Chair of the Board or the CEO. Attend at least one City Council meeting a year.
Confidentiality: Maintains a high level of confidentiality.
Support: Must be a decision maker for the member business, shall be the primary point of contact for the members business, and must be in good financial standing with the ACC.

Board position inquiries are made throughout the calendar year by word-of-mouth, referral, and recruitment. The Board Development Committee meets regularly to examine the industry representation, vacancies, and specific needs of the organization. Applicants are vetted carefully with the guidelines mentioned above in mind. Finalist candidates must appear for an in-person interview. You are encouraged to review the position summary and responsibilities thoroughly. Should you be interested in applying for a Board position, complete the attached application and agreement and email to karen@arcadiacachamber.org if you are selected, the full Board must approve your nomination of Directors at an upcoming meeting.
Candidates must be an active member and in good standing with the Chamber. Ideal candidates for Board positions professionally present themselves in all situations. They have proven performance with the knowledge, talent, skill, vitality, and ability to make a difference. Board members demonstrate commitment to the organization, its mission, and values. They have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, which are essential to effective teamwork and accomplishing the strategic objectives of the ACC. Board members use sound judgment and act in the best interest of ACC. They also serve as mentors and teachers to future leaders, and they express a desire to give their expertise on specific concerns or interests. A candidate will demonstrate intuitive and interpretive skills enabling the understanding of their fellow Board members.
Each term is two years, with a maximum of two consecutive terms served.
Board meetings are held in person every second Tuesday of the month; any changes to meeting date/time will be agreed upon by the Board of Directors.
Members are allowed three absences before the Board Development Committee reviews their position. ACC recognizes that unforeseen circumstances arise and treats each case individually. We ask that any Board Member not able to attend provides an email to the CEO 48 hours in advance.
*Board members are required to attend the one-day Strategic Planning meeting typically held in February. They may also be asked to serve on (or chair) at least one committee with varying recurrence dates/times.
*A director’s financial commitment includes participating in and supporting Chamber programs. The minimum estimated annual expense is $1800/year, in addition to annual membership dues. This level of commitment for financial support allows ACC to budget finances in a responsible manner and will also add value to the member’s membership. To formalize commitment with the Arcadia Chamber, a meeting with the CEO is the next best step to finalize details
