Arcadia Unified Board of Education Welcomes New Leadership and Continued Service

Board Members Uyen Wong and Leigh Chavez during Swearing In Ceremony
ARCADIA, CA – The Arcadia Unified School District proudly welcomed Uyen Wong to the Arcadia Unified Board of Education and celebrated the swearing-in of incumbent Board Member Leigh Chavez as she begins a new four-year term.
Wong joins the Board following more than a decade of service to Arcadia Unified schools through leadership roles with Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) at Holly Avenue Elementary School, First Avenue Middle School, Arcadia High School, and Arcadia Council PTA. A first-generation college graduate, educator, and longtime community volunteer, Wong also serves on the Arcadia Beautiful Commission and brings a professional background in philanthropy, fundraising, and education.
Chavez, first elected in 2017, begins her third four-year term after being re-elected by the Arcadia community. Throughout her service, she has remained a dedicated advocate for students, families, and public education while helping guide the District through continued growth and achievement. Following her tenure as Board President, Chavez has rotated back into the role of Board Member as part of the Board’s annual leadership transition. Board Member Shirley Yee now serves as President of the Arcadia Unified Board of Education.
“We are excited to welcome Uyen to the Board of Education and congratulate Leigh on beginning another term of service,” said Superintendent Dr. David Vannasdall. “Together, they bring valuable experience, thoughtful leadership, and a shared commitment to serving the students, staff, and families of Arcadia Unified.”
“I am honored to serve the community of wonderful students and family,” said Wong. “I look forward to working alongside my fellow Board members, our educators, families, and community to continue supporting the success of every student.”
“It is a privilege to continue serving the Arcadia community,” said Chavez. “I am grateful for the trust our community has placed in me and look forward to continuing our work together to ensure every student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.”
