Arcadia, CA — The Arcadia Woman’s Club clubhouse, a building familiar to many and the first structure to be designated as a historic landmark under the City of Arcadia’s Historic Preservation Ordinance, is undergoing a significant restoration that will breathe new life into its historic interior.
The Arcadia Woman’s Club was founded in 1914 and has long been a cornerstone of the community, providing a space for women to gather, engage in philanthropic work, and host a variety of social and civic events. The historic clubhouse, built in 1931, stands as a testament to the rich history and enduring spirit of Arcadia. At 93-years old, the clubhouse has stood as a symbol of community and tradition, and this restoration aims to bring it back to its original grandeur while ensuring its preservation for generations to come.
The Clubhouse refresh and refurbish project is being led by Arcadia Woman’s Club member Marchelle Sellers who has a background in art and design. Historic records have been researched to authenticate original features and the key elements of the interior restoration include:
– Maple Hardwood Floors: After years of use, the original maple hardwood floors are being lovingly restored to their former glory.
– Natural Wood Finishes: The painted woodwork, once covered up, is being carefully stripped and restored to reveal its original natural wood state, highlighting the original craftsmanship.
– Fresh Interior Paint: The entire interior is being repainted, enhancing the ambiance while staying true to the historic charm of the building.
– Spanish Revival Furnishings: New furnishings, inspired by a Spanish Revival color palette will reflect the iconic 1930s Spanish Revival style, blending elegance and historical authenticity.
This project is a true community effort, with members of the Arcadia Woman’s Club leading the charge in fundraising. To date, of the full campaign amount of $87,500, 70% of the necessary funds have been raised through generous member donations, and the Club is excited to continue the campaign to complete this remarkable transformation.
For those looking to support the restoration and be a permanent part of the Club’s history, donors can contribute to the campaign to be included on the permanent donor plaque. Donations can be made by visiting http://arcadiawo mansclub.org, or by sending donations to the Arcadia Woman’s Club, P.O. Box 660861, Arcadia, CA 91066. Another opportunity to support is by attending the upcoming “Swing & Soirée” dinner/dance event on November 2 at the Clubhouse, where attendees will have a chance to preview some of the beautiful restoration work. Tickets are $75 per person and available on the Club’s website.
Many area residents have fond memories of being at the Clubhouse for dances, music recitals, youth activities and the like. In keeping with the on-going tradition, the Arcadia Woman’s Club is excited to announce that the newly restored Clubhouse will continue to be available for event rentals such as weddings, parties, group activities and filming.
