ASSEMBLYMEMBER ED CHAU’S STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR’S BUDGET PROPOSAL
SACRAMENTO – Assemblymember Ed Chau (D – Monterey Park) released the following statement upon announcement of the Governor’s 2019-20 State budget proposal:
“Governor Newsom took the first step today towards putting forth a budget that aligns with the goals we have set and accomplished, as a Legislature, in previous years, and the goals we will strive for in the year to come. Those goals include expanding the Earned Income Tax Credit, which he has proposed to double in size by $1 billion. Not only will this support low-income working families with young children, but in expanding early childhood education, through funding for Universal Preschool, we are also investing in the future workforce of our state.
“In light of some of the national rhetoric surrounding immigrant communities, our state remains committed to this constituency, as demonstrated by the Governor, through his proposal to fund immigrant-related services such as applicants seeking Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and naturalization, which I applaud.
“As Chair of the Assembly Committee on Privacy and Consumer Protection, I am also intrigued by the Governor’s proposal to transform the delivery of state government services and its technology investments through the creation of the Office of Digital Innovation, which I plan to review further.”
