Upper Water June News Splash
Delta Conveyance Project
In recent weeks, Upper Water and other Southern California agencies, led by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California (MWD), have coordinated strong regional support for Governor Newsom’s Delta Conveyance Project Streamlining Trailer Bill—and the effort is still ongoing.
The trailer bill seeks to modernize California’s State Water Project by streamlining the Delta Conveyance Project, reducing regulatory delays, and constructing a single-tunnel pipeline to ensure long-term water reliability and groundwater replenishment. Letters of support from our region’s municipal water districts and water retailers that serve the San Gabriel Valley have been submitted to our legislators. Upper Water also published an opinion piece written by Director Anthony Fellow in the Los Angeles Times.

Pure Water Southern California
Metropolitan Water District on May 14th released the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Pure Water Southern California—a major water recycling initiative moving forward in partnership with Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts.
Pure Water Southern California would purify and reuse cleaned wastewater currently discharged to the ocean. Once fully operational, the program is expected to produce 150 million gallons of purified water daily–enough to meet the needs of 1.5 million people. Upper Water has been a committed partner and strong advocate for this regional recycled water project, which will directly enhance water reliability and long-term sustainability throughout the service area.
