New Construction at the Arboretum!
We are excited to share news about our Baldwin Lake and Tule Pond Restoration Project, which will begin this summer and be completed in October 2027. After years of study and planning, the lake and pond will finally undergo a major restoration to improve water quality, restore wildlife habitat, and enhance stormwater management.
In September, the lake and pond will be dredged to remove decades of accumulated sediment, organic matter, and urban runoff. New equipment will also be installed to improve water quality, drainage, flood control, and related systems.
The Arboretum will remain open to members and the public throughout the construction period. Construction will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. During this time, access to certain areas of the garden may be temporarily restricted or rerouted to prioritize visitor safety.
Our partners at the LA County Department of Public Works have provided full details about the project’s scope on their website, which you can access by clicking here.
We understand that you may have specific questions about the impact of this project on the gardens during construction. We invite you to visit the Arboretum website, where you will find a Baldwin Lake/Tule Pond Restoration page with Frequently Asked Questions. When the project is completed, we look forward to celebrating the restored Baldwin Lake, the crown jewel of our landscape, and Tule Pond.
Thank you for your steadfast support of the Arboretum. We are grateful to have you with us on this journey of stewardship, enhancement, and wildlife restoration.
Warm regards,

Su Oh
