PCC’s EWD Pulse Newsletter – Workforce Pell Grants (Will Eventually) Open CTE Opportunities

Greetings!

A very popular government financial aid tool has been extended to include short-term and typically low-cost training programs. The Workforce Pell Grant (WPG) became available July 1st, and it offers federal funding for short-duration educational programs that delivery critical skills across numerous industries. Learners seeking credentials in courses lasting less than 15 weeks can access funds to cover their costs, getting them into their new occupation or career without the need to take on significant debt.

Modeled after the very popular Pell grants, the WPG options are not yet available in California, as the state sets up qualifications and standards. Once they go live, however, many people who have yearned for more and better training will finally have the opportunity to pursue it.
