On April 7, the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce readily welcomes Gary Kovacic to share his experiences while serving six terms as Mayor at the monthly Government Affairs Forum.
Mayor Gary Kovacic has been actively involved within the community of Arcadia since living here from six weeks old. He has imparted his time and expertise beginning as a day counselor for Arcadia Recreations at Wilderness Park until presently occupying another term on City Council. His long-standing participation has bolstered the vision he has for his beloved city and he has overseen many projects: the building of a new police station to beautifying the Peacock Fountain at Arcadia County Park to publishing two “Visions of Arcadia” collections of essays about life in Arcadia.
He also currently serves as the president and CEO of the Arcadia Performing Arts Foundation. The Arcadia Performing Arts Center, a beacon for arts and culture, was established through the overwhelming support he helped gain as chairman of the citizen campaign committee for the passage of Measure I. This $218 million dollar bond measure to improve Arcadia schools reflects the Mayor’s passion for improving the educational experience of students. As a board member of the Arcadia Education Foundation and coach of Arcadia High School’s national champion Constitution Team, he is mindful of enriching the involvement of the city’s youth.
His past achievements include being named Arcadia’s 2006 Citizen of the Year, the Lucky Baldwin District Distinguished Citizen Award, the Chinese American Education Association City Service Award, the Arcadia Chinese Association City Award, and the AUSD “Golden Apple” Award.
The public is invited at 8 a.m. on the first Thursday of each month (except July & August) to hear free informative presentations at the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce’s monthly Government Affairs Forum. Led by Chairman Jack Orswell from Orswell & Kasman, Inc. Environmental Assessments & Consulting, the Forums are held in the Chamber’s conference room sponsored by Foothill Credit Union.
