Arcadia Library Hosts Yosemite Pioneer Women Talk
Local historian Ed Anderson will be offering a fascinating talk on Saturday, March 12, from 2 to 3 pm, in the Arcadia Public Library’s Cay Mortenson Auditorium on “Pioneers in Petticoats: Yosemite’s Early Settler Women.” Yosemite National Park’s history is filled with countless true stories of courage and intrigue
featuring intrepid women. Attendees will find answers to such little-known questions as how did the earliest climbers of Half Dome discover that a woman had already beaten them to the top?
And which female abolitionist successfully lobbied Abraham Lincoln to protect the Yosemite area in 1864?
This tribute to Yosemite National Park’s female trailblazers and its most prolific writer, Shirley Sargent, is free and open to all.
