Barger to Recognize Family of Jackie Robinson and the Friends of Jackie Robinson Park in Honor of Juneteenth

Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger will recognize members of Jackie Robinson’s family and the Friends of Jackie Robinson Park to celebrate Juneteenth during tomorrow’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

Jackie Robinson Park was dedicated in 1965 in Sun Village and was the first park in the U.S. named after the Dodgers legend. Sun Village has historic roots as the first community established in the Antelope Valley where African American people could rent and buy property.
Members from both Jackie Robinson’s family and the Friends of Jackie Robinson Park will speak at the presentation to reflect on the significance of the Juneteenth holiday. On Saturday, June 15, Supervisor Barger joined the Friends of Jackie Robinson Park for their long standing Juneteenth celebration in Sun Village.
Visuals will include the scroll presentation, historic photos from the Jackie Robinson Park dedication in 1965 (which Robinson attended), and photos from last weekend’s Juneteenth celebration.
