Updated Jan. 14, 2015: A panel of six former Arcadia Mayors and the numerous exciting developments on the horizon for Arcadia, including Santa Anita Park and proposed major residential and commercial developments in Downtown Arcadia near the new Gold Line station and in south Arcadia, will be highlighted at the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce’s annual Planning Conference on Thursday morning, January 22.
The event sponsored by Singpoli, Rose Hills Memorial Park & Mortuaries and host hotel Embassy Suites Hotel Arcadia, will feature presentations by executive representatives from some of the projects and by Arcadia City Manager Dominic Lazzaretto in his annual State of the City address. The conference, an extension of the Chamber’s monthly meeting of the Board of Directors that is open to any Chamber member, runs from 8 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
This year’s Citizen of the year and Corporate Community Contributor will also be announced for the first time at the Planning Conference.
Embassy Suites, which is continuing to upgrade its suites and facilities, is hosting a full breakfast buffet before the program begins and will offer drinks and light pastries throughout the morning in the remodeled ballroom.

A brief history and impact of the 94 year-old Arcadia Chamber of Commerce, featuring little-seen historical photos, will also be presented by Chamber CEO Scott Hettrick as the Chamber prepares for a 50th anniversary celebration this fall of its iconic office building.
And a handful of former Arcadia Mayors, including Jim Helms (1971-72); Floretta Lauber (1976-77); Bob Harbicht (1988-89; 1997-98; 2008-09; 2012-13); George Fasching (1992-93); Dr. Sheng Chang (2003); and Peter Amundson (2010-11), will share their most interesting challenges while in office and offer thoughts on future commercial plans and challenges for the city.
In addition to a brief convening of a regular meeting agenda of the Chamber Board of Directors, the agenda also includes a summary of the Chamber’s accomplishments over the past year by President Denise Weaver of Weaver & Associates Insurance. Incoming President Andrew Gregson (April 1, 2015) of Hart Mieras & Morris and The Executive Factor will present his plans and goals for the Chamber in 2015-16, as well as a call to action.
