ASSEMBLYMEMBER CHAU TO UNVEIL 2018 LEGISLATIVE PACKAGE
MONTEREY PARK – Assemblymember Ed Chau (D-Monterey Park) will hold a press conference in Monterey Park to unveil his 2018 Legislative Bill Package and to discuss his legislative priorities for the upcoming year. He will highlight legislation designed to protect consumers by requiring that Internet Service Providers get opt-in consent from consumers to use, disclose, or permit access to sensitive personal information; by requiring Consumer Credit Reporting Agencies to patch vulnerable computer systems or be subject to civil penalties awarded to individuals whose data was compromised; and by authorizing the development of publicly owned broadband services and requiring those entities to adhere to “net neutrality” rules. He will also highlight legislation to protect children by prohibiting social media websites and applications from inferring parental consent from a child’s consent; and by establishing a program that would study the role and impact of electronic media in the development of children. Finally, he will highlight legislation to improve public safety by addressing increased incidents of theft; and by tracking cannabis drug-driving.
