Employee Benefit Planning Association’s 50th Golf Tournament To Support Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Dog Therapy Program
Pasadena, CA – When golfers tee up at the Employee Benefit Planning Association (EBPA)’s 50th Golf Tournament on Monday, June 27, they’ll be playing to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Amerman Family Foundation Dog Therapy Program.
The dog therapy program at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) is one of the most innovative programs in the country. It recruits, trains, and supports a roster of roughly 100 therapy dog teams visiting a wide variety of clinical settings. The arrival of a dog at a patient’s room is often one of the most anticipated parts of the child’s hospital stay, providing an opportunity for a happy, memorable moment during what can be a challenging time.
“It was an easy decision to apply our effort toward this truly amazing and important program at CHLA,” states Rick Sutherland, EBPA’s board president.
Dog teams can now visit from early morning to night, seven days a week, all year round. Dogs are also available to help motivate kids during physical therapy, distract them during long or uncomfortable procedures, and provide relief for those in pain. And if a patient needs extra support for any reason – anxiety over a specific procedure, loneliness if a parent must go home or to work, motivation for that first daunting attempt to get out of bed after major surgery – a hospital caregiver can request a special dog visit.
Tee time is 9 a.m. at the Industry Hills Golf Club of Pacific Palms Resort 1 Industry Hills Pkwy, City of Industry, CA 91744. There are two 18-hole courses known as The Ike and The Babe and the course has been the location of PGA, LPGA, and Champions Tour qualifiers and hosted the 2011 Kia Classic.
Non-golfers can join the fun (and benefit CHLA) during a Paint ‘n Sip session instructed by Pinot’s Palette from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. that includes painting supplies, lunch and wine, and they can take their masterpiece home.
EBPA thanks tournament Title Sponsor One Medical, Donor Sponsor Kaiser Permanente and these generous sponsors – Ameritas, BenefitMall, VSP Vision, Ameriprise Financial, GIS Benefits, Equitable, Collective Health, Quit Genius, Burnham Benefits Insurance Services, Justworks and Playa Vista Insurance Services.
