Fence Ideas for your Home from Erenay Design Build
Fences are functional and aesthetic structures. They should complement the look of your house and match its architectural style. To build a fence, there are many different materials such as: real wood, vinyl, wrought iron, rocks, wood logs, bamboo, aluminum, glass, steel and even concrete.
First of all, find out if your fence project requires a building permit from the city in which you live. Research the municipal building code for the look, height and material(s) you can use for your fence.
Second, find out where to install the fence. You will need to build it on your own property. A property survey shows where your property lines are. If you cannot find your property survey and are not sure about where your property lines are, you may be able to get it from your county’s records office. If they can not provide it, you will need to hire a state licensed surveyor for a property survey.
Keep in mind that a fence has to be set back a certain distance from sidewalks and property lines depending on where you live; ask your city.
Third, ask yourself what the main reason is for installing fence like: security, privacy, to block noise or aesthetic concern. This answer will help you in the design and material selection. If you want privacy, a tall, solid fence is a good suggestion. If you want to an aesthetical view, wood or vinyl vertical with larger gaps between posts can make you happy as air can flow and create ventilation through these types of fences.
Personally, I like horizontal-positioned wood fences with painted metal posts or concrete with a wood combination.
Wood fences require occasional staining or sealing and can warp and rot over time. Vinyl is a low-maintenance material.
