Join Mayor April Verlato for an Insightful Day in the Life of a Mayor
Arcadia, CA — Ever wondered what it’s like to be the mayor of a thriving city? The Arcadia Community Coordinating Council invites you to an exclusive event on Monday, January 8, 2024, as Mayor April Verlato shares valuable insights into the day in the life of a mayor. The event promises a unique opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge and understanding of the challenges and triumphs that come with leading a community.
Mayor April Verlato, a dedicated public servant, was elected to her first term on the City Council in April 2016 and re-elected for a second term in April 2020. Serving as Mayor of Arcadia from April 2019 to April 2020, Mayor Verlato spearheaded the Citizens’ Financial Advisory Committee, successfully reducing the City’s $150M unfunded pension liability to approximately $12M. Under her leadership, Arcadia experienced a remarkable $9M surplus in the 2021-2022 budget.
As a delegate to the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments, Mayor Verlato actively contributes to regional initiatives. She serves on its Executive Committee as the 2nd Vice President and plays a crucial role in addressing issues such as homelessness. Notably, her work on the Homelessness Committee led to the creation of the SGV Regional Housing Trust Fund, a pioneering initiative that has garnered over $30M in State and County funding for affordable housing, shelters, homeless services, and diversion programs.
Mayor Verlato’s dedication extends to mental health crisis response initiatives, as seen in her involvement in the pilot program for SGV CARES, a mobile mental health crisis response team for the San Gabriel Valley.
Born and raised in Arcadia, Mayor Verlato earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from UCLA and a law degree from Southwestern School of Law. She has been practicing law since 2000, continuing her father’s legacy in the heart of Downtown Arcadia.
Fiercely committed to community safety, Mayor Verlato has opposed the Zero Cash Bail policy rolled out by the LA County Superior Court. She has directed efforts to join a lawsuit fighting against this policy, citing concerns about its impact on police departments and community safety.
Join Mayor Verlato for an engaging presentation on January 8, 2024, at Villa Catrina Restaurant, 251 N. Santa Anita Ave. Lunch is $17.00.
