Because of the great benefits to patients and overwhelming community support, Methodist Hospital decided in 2011 to modernize its catheterization “cath” laboratory program, starting with updating the oldest lab with new technology. All three of the cath labs were constantly busy, operating at full tilt most hours of the day.
Of the three cath labs, Cath Lab 1 and Cath Lab 2 now have been updated. The third is expected to be updated later this year and will mirror Cath Lab 2. Once all renovations are completed, we will be able to serve more patients with the latest technology.
Cath Lab 1 was first to be updated, with its new technology eliminating down times and allowing more patients to be served and with greater precision. Cath Lab 2 is now open after undergoing a complete renovation with all-new, state-of-the-art equipment, such as the Artis Zeego Imaging System.
Artis zeego is the first multi-axis system based on robotic technology that provides greater positioning flexibility and broader coverage. It can be controlled with far greater ease and precision than a traditional floor- or ceiling-mounted system.
These renovations were made possible by $2 million in generous donations from the community, largely through the fund-raising efforts of the Methodist Hospital Foundation’s Cardiac Council members, who volunteered their time and expertise to this endeavor.
