Summer Reading Fun at Arcadia Public Library
May 20, 2022 – Arcadia Public Library is fully reopened, and it is time to celebrate Summer at Your Library! This year’s theme, “The Great Reading Adventure,” invites readers of all ages to track the minutes they’ve read online, so they can earn tickets for drawings for great prices. Online registration for the summer program begins on Monday, June 6: visit ArcadiaCA.Beanstack.org to register and log minutes read.
Children from infants to the 5th grade and youth (grades 6th to 8th in the fall) can sign up for their own special programs via https://ArcadiaCa.gov/Library. The Children’s staff will be offering popup visits to local parks on June 8 (Camino Grove) and June 16 (Newcastle Park), as well as special programs by favorite children’s performers. On Saturday, June 18, Talewise will present “Pirates: Lost at Sea,” an action-packed adventure that incorporates fun science facts. On Saturday, July 9, Noteworthy Puppets returns with “Sherlock Homerun: A Whodunit Puppet Musical,” while on Saturday, July 30, Pacific Animal Productions will visit with their amazing animals. There will also be storytimes for toddlers and preschoolers; special programs for elementary-age kids; and weekly challenges for middle-schoolers.
Teens and adults will earn tickets towards grand prizes awarded at the end of July, and teens will also be entered in a weekly drawing for $10 gift cards. The grand prizes include a Yoshan Tea gift certificate, an LA Arboretum family membership (for adults), and a Smartphone photo printer (for teens). Teens will enjoy a special book discussion program, while adults can participate in a weekly Walking Book Club, starting at 9:30 am on Saturday, June 11. Both groups will compete in the “Reading Adventure Map” contest: the minutes each group has read will be tracked on a giant map as teens and adults race to read the most minutes—stopping at a few literary landmarks along the way.
