Pasadena Star-News reporter Brenda Gazzar raised the issue once again of the decision by Breeders’ Cup to use the city name of Los Angeles rather than Arcadia for its event at Santa Anita Park. This issue came up a year ago when it was announced that Breeders’ would be coming back to Santa Anita in 2012.
While the Chamber made it clear to Brenda that it would be selfishly preferable for Arcadia to be touted instead of Los Angeles, we understand and appreciate the sound marketing strategy of promoting the event to the world as being in Los Angeles, which will ultimately result in the event being even more successful by attracting even more people, which will provide an improved bottom line for Breeders’ Cup and therefore also Arcadia. The Chamber supports whatever it takes to keep Breeders’ Cup successful and whatever keeps the event here in Arcadia, both of which are priorities over Arcadia getting the name recognition.
