Just in time for summer, Arcadia Community Coordinating Council (ACCC) members and guests will hear Lisa Blake, Armstrong Gardens – Monrovia, speak about gardening strategies for water conservation, as well as other gardening tips.
The May 4 ACCC lunch meeting will take place at the Church of the Good Shepherd’s Jordan Hall, 400 W. Duarte Road (SW corner of Duarte Rd. and Holly Ave.), in Arcadia from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. With California state facing one of the most severe droughts in history, and Arcadia City’s new water usage ordinance, this is a great time to learn how to further cut water consumption and still maintain curbside appeal.
Blake, who has been gardening since she was a child, graduated with a Communications degree from UCLA, but chose to follow passion in horticulture. She entered the Gardening and Horticulture Program at UCLA Extension, as well as the Theodore Payne Foundation. After graduating, she worked as an independent garden designer and installer before joining Armstrong. Blake has filled many roles, including management and landscape designer. Her interests range from California native plants to edibles.
ACCC, a nonprofit organization, brings the greater Arcadia community together encouraging voluntary cooperation of organizations, agencies and individuals to make the community a better place to live. ACCC supports the Campership program designed to give low-income youth, ages 18 and under, who live in Arcadia or attend Arcadia schools, a chance to participate in camps and recreational activities that they may not be able to afford.
For information about membership in the ACCC or to attend the meeting, please call ACCC Membership Chair Raina Martinez, Foothill Unity Center, at (626) 358-3486.
