In order to be best prepared for upcoming Chinese events our Ambassadors Francine Chiuand Councilmember Sho Tay gave a small presentation on Chinese Culture as it pertains to the Arcadia Chamber. Francine first elaborated on the fact that color holds great meaning in Chinese culture and by simply abiding to their norms people can keep from making any unintentional offenses. Specifically; red symbolizes good fortune and joy, yellow symbolizes great prestige, and white symbolizes mourning and death (This is a color that should be avoided during events such as ribbon cuttings or mixers). She moved onto the subject of the traditional Lion Dance, which is seen as an essential part of every Chinese festival. The traditional dance consists of many different components, these being; the drums work to ward off bad omens, the lettuce that is dropped and eaten symbolizes the act of “picking green” which is said to illustrate the growth of wealth and fortune, the act of spitting the lettuce out is for the audience as those that are hit by the lettuce are granted good luck and the mirror affixed to the Lion is necessary to reflect out bad omens. Our chamber ambassadors are learning to be best prepared in the everchanging market.
The Chamber was greeted to a bevy of new members as well as the two newest chamber ambassadors; Martin Ramos of Nicomite Termite Control and Christine Lee of New York Life. The two new ambassadors were given a moment to introduce themselves to the committee. Martin mentioned that he’s been a longtime member but just recently he has started getting ever more involved with the Arcadia Chamber. He looks forward to attending future meetings and events as well he has great interest in seeing the development of the Arcadia Chamber and its members. Christine Lee works with New York Life as an insurance manager,
