It was comforting to see the City Council so supportive in several successive decisions Tuesday night (Oct. 2).
First, there was a study session where they agreed to move forward for now on a proposal by the Hale Corporation and The Stronach Company to build a $20 million, four-story, 72,000 square-foot medical office building near a similar building across from Methodist Hospital on the southern parking lot of Santa Anita Park.
Second, following comments of support from the Chamber in the Star-News and at the Council meeting, the Council approved a request by Westfield Santa Anita to add services to the offerings at the mall, including waterless car washing/detailing in a covered area; chair massages; promotional “lead generating” kiosks/tables; and dance studios.
Finally, the Council approved the trial for two weekends this fall of the popular 626 Night Market at Santa Anita Park, also supported by the Chamber.
It’s not clear whether any of these new services will be successful, but kudos to the City Council for allowing local businesses the opportunity and latitude to try new things that may help them remain and become even more viable contributors to the community.
The Hale Corporation, Santa Anita Park, and Westfield Santa Anita are all Chamber members, so that makes it extra encouraging to see the support from the City.
