Arcadia Chamber board member Dr. Nina Getz introduced eye care specialist Dr. Peter Ho Win as the kind of person many people wish everyone was like. The award-winning guest speaker at today’s monthly Networking Breakfast, sponsored by Rose Hills Memorial Park & Mortuary, addressed the more than 40 attendees by discussing the importance of eye care as well as diabetes and macular degeneration and the different options and treatments that are available today.
Prior to his comments, Chamber CEO Scott Hettrick and Arcadia Historical Society President Gene Glasco presented the Business Icon award to Assistance League of Arcadia President Keppie Sullivan and incoming President Kay Kinsler. ALA, which recently celebrated its 60th anniversary, operates the Bargain Box thrift store on Live Oak Avenue. Sullivan said the Bargain Box is the primary fundraiser for the Operation School Bell program which gives less-fortunate children everything they need from clothes to grooming accessories before the start of the school year. Chamber board member Wayne Williams, a former principal from Duarte, shared how his students would literally cry in joy whenever he would come back from picking up these kits from the Assistance League.

The winner of the three-minute Business Spotlight, life coach Laura Wilcox of Laura Wilcox Hypnotherapy, joked that despite her talents she does not have the ability to turn anyone into a chicken (without their cooperation). American Plus Bank won the drawing for next month’s Business Spotlight.
Mike Chavez of Rose Hills offered free consultation to any friends & loved ones who wanted to talk about Rose Hills’ services.
As always, each attendee gave a 30-second introduction of themselves at the beginning of the program, and more than a half-dozen attendees won nice raffle prizes provided by other attendees:

In the testimonial portion of the program Gene Glasco, who is also the elected City Clerk, shared that when the Highlands Homeowner Association needed a last-minute modification to its insurance policy, Weaver & Associates under Chamber President Denise Weaver was able to make it happen. John Sun from Budget Blinds had two enthusiastic testimonials from Chamber members lauding his excellent service, including Glenn Oyoung of turn3 Creative.
The Networking Breakfast was masterfully hosted by Rod Salazar of Stubbie’s and Printing Control, who at one point even broke into song with enthusiasm.
