Arcadia Chamber CEO Scott Hettrick introduced Elizabeth Booth, noting that she coordinates the many special corporate and consumer non-racing events hosted at the myriad rooms indoor and outdoor settings. Elizabeth welcomed the crowd to lunch at this gorgeous restaurant with its sweeping views of the race track and the Angeles National Forest! She noted that many weddings are booked at the track, including Scott’s own daughter’s wedding, as well as many seminars, exhibitions, company picnics, food and wine festivals, car shows, and summertime outdoor concerts by the California Philharmonic.
Scott and Elizabeth offered informative trivia about the track, which they noted opened on Christmas Day in 1934, just a few months after the Arcadia Chamber was official incorporated. The Chamber’s historical connection with the track also goes back to the 1960s when the track’s so-called “wine shed” on the infield was the venue for the annual Wine Shed mixers that were fundraisers for Arcadia’s floats in the Rose Parade. Since the Arcadia Chamber was a key supporter of the Arcadia Tournament of Roses organization, when it finally ceased to exist in the late 1990s, all assets were turned over to the Arcadia Chamber, which then took over the annual Wine Shed Mixer at Santa Anita, and later called it A Taste of Arcadia, and shortened it to Taste of Arcadia and moved it to the Arboretum.
It was a perfect afternoon to dine, network and tour the race track facilities, including the beautiful suites. Thanks to Elizabeth for the personal tours and for the great way-finding signage in the parking lot and the paddock area.
The FrontRunner, which opened in 1999, is among the best ways to experience the beauty and excitement of a day at Santa Anita Park. It features a 215-foot long bar and a seasonally revolving menu. The restaurant is currently open Wednesdays through Sundays.
