Help raise money to support Arcadia as Host Town for the Special Olympics World Games this summer by dining at the iconic Derby Restaurant Monday, May 18. You may even get to meet a sports celebrity.
The eatery at 233 Huntington Drive will donate 20% of the money it makes off lunch and dinner from Special Olympics supporters.
The money raised will go to the Arcadia Host Town Committee, which consists of some 20 volunteers representing The City of Arcadia, the School District, the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce, the Arcadia Rotary Club, and other community groups. The committee has been busy making arrangements for Arcadia to host approximately 100 athletes and coaches from the two-island country of Trinidad & Tobago and the former Soviet Union country now known as the Kyrgyz Republic.
Patrons of The Derby on May 18 are requested to make a reservation in advance by calling 626 447-2430 and say they are supporting Special Olympics.
The Derby is one of many Arcadia Chamber members getting involved in helping the city host a delegation of athletes and coaches coming to Southern California for the Special Olympics World Games Los Angeles 2015 (LA2015) from the Opening Ceremonies at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseumon July 25 and continuing with daily competitions through August 2.
The visitors will be in Arcadia from July 21-24. Arcadia is one of nearly 100 communities in the southern half of California that will be hosting the 10,000 athletes and coaches from 170 countries involved with the World Games. The cost of hosting one athlete or coach for three days, which includes hotel room, food, transportation and entertainment, is estimated at $300.
