The latest Networking Breakfast led by our top drawer Master of Ceremonies Rod Salazar of Stubbies Promotions on Sept. 18 featured a three-minute informational presentation by Giggle Fiber and honors for Arcadia Business Icon: California Thoroughbred Breeders Association along with guest speaker Pasadena Small Business Development Center Director Salvatrice Cummo. This well-attended monthly Networking Breakfast, held the the third Thursday of every month, is sponsored by Rose Hills Memorial Park & Mortuary and takes place at the ever popular Santa Anita Golf Course.
Attendees feasted on a beautiful buffet breakfast complete with plenty of coffee and juice to get everyone revved up for the day. Rod Salazar, always the consummate gentleman and man about town, kicked off the breakfast with the flag salute followed by 30-second verbal “elevator pitch” self-introductions and promotions from those in attendance.

In his business spotlight, David Haverkate of Giggle Fiber, which just had a grand opening and ribbon-cutting at their offices located in nearby Monrovia, noted that the company is anxious to be your local Internet provider. Open at 512 S. Myrtle Avenue in Old Town Monrovia, the Giggle Store displays how a super fast connection can enable you to do almost all of your communications and entertainment over a single low cost Internet connection. David indicates they will have 28 employees by year end! Next month the business spotlight will shine on Sidath Kumar owner of T-Neer Tea Room located in Sierra Madre.
The Arcadia Business Icon for this month was presented to the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association by Arcadia Historical Society Vice President Carol Libby and Chamber CEO Scott Hettrick. Cookie Hackworth and Loretta Veiga accepted the award on behalf of the Association.The Arcadia Business Icon award recognizes iconic businesses that have become a part of the fabric of Arcadia. They are true icons worthy of recognition for all that they contribute to our community.
Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Director Salvatrice Cummo gave an informative talk on how she and her team can help small businesses access capital and overcome obstacles to their success. The SBDC provides one-on-one consulting to help small businesses prosper and grow. All of the consulting is at no cost. In fact, the consultants are themselves small business owners. The SBDC is partially funded by Pasadena City College which plays host to the center.
The ever-popular raffle helped to close out the breakfast. Sepand Ardeshir from Custom Comfort Mattress provided a pillow won by Arolyn Burns of Nerium; Vicki Knight of Century Rooter provided a car air freshener won by Romy Rahmanian of the Law Office of Romy S. Rahmanian; Annette Ousterhout of Jan’s Towing provided a gift bag won by Sidath Kumar of T-Neer; Mitchell Salem of EH Financial provided a $20 gas card won by Loretta Veiga of the California Thoroughbred Breeders Association; Sue Cook from the Arcadia Performing Arts Center provided two tickets to the upcoming production of Alice in Wonderland won by Joanne Bockian of Stars Athletic Foundation; Laura Wilcox of Achieve SMART Goals provided a CD won by Dr. Luke Phifer of Arcadia Chiropractic Center.
Tickets to the breakfast, which runs from 7:30 a.m. – 9 a.m., are $20 in advance ($25 at the door) and discounted to $15 for Chamber members who pay at least two days in advance ($20 at the door for Chamber members). No charge for those holding a Chamber All Access Pass, but AAP holders must still RSVP in advance.
