Arcadia Unified School District Superintendent Joel Shawn gave an in-depth State of the District update to the Government Affairs attendees at the monthly Forum held in the Chamber conference room Feb. 5, including a discussion of the County’s proposed water parcel “fee” and its effect on the School District. He gave details of a new type of testing for students to determine their future careers, noting that sample testing will begin at Dana Middle School and Arcadia High School be in 2014. Other topics included Governor Brown’s local control funding proposal and Capital Allocation Bonds (CABS) for future school expansion.
Representatives from Assemblymember Ed Chau (Olivia Lee), County Supervisor Mike Antonovich (Brian Mejia), the City of Arcadia (Economic Development manager Jerry Schwartz), Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Authority (Rodrigo Gonzalez) and the Monrovia, Arcadia, Duarte Town Council each presented monthly reports.

Scheduled speaker for March 7 is Deputy Director of Development Services / City of Arcadia Engineer Phil Wray on the timeline and traffic routing for the Gold Line bridge construction over Santa Anita Avenue, as well as other bridge and station construction plans.
