L-R Gov Affairs Forum chairman Jack Orswell with Arcadia City Council candidates Tom Beck, Sho Tay, Paul Van Fleet, and Roger Chandler.
Four of the five candidates for three seats on the Arcadia City Council spent several minutes each introducing themselves at Thursday’s (Feb. 6, 2014) Government Affairs Forum in the Arcadia Chamber of Commerce conference room sponsored by Foothill Credit Union.
All four — Paul Van Fleet, Sho Tay, Roger Chandler, Tom Beck — as well as fifth candidate Burton Brink in a written statement, said they mostly wanted to keep Arcadia running smoothly and maintain its high quality of life. All five candidates will attend a 90-minute Meet the Candidates Forum sponsored by the Chamber and the Arcadia Association of Realtors at 7 p.m. on March 6 at the Arcadia Public Library.
As always, the meeting was led by Forum chairperson Jack Orswell, who himself is a candidate for U.S. Congress, a Republican opposing incumbent Congresswoman Judy Chu.
The candidates were interviewed at the Forum by TV network NTD LA, which had three representatives at the meeting, including NTDTV contributor & Business Development Cindy Cheung, reporter Sherry Liu, and Anne Lu, director of client services. Cheung offered to cover any Chamber member event; contact her in El Monte at: cindy.cheung@ntdtvla.com or 626-532-0023.
Arcadia City Councilmember Bob Harbicht and Economic Development Manager Jerry Schwartz offered updates on City activities, and reports were also made by Brian Mejia of L.A. County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, as well as the Monrovia Arcadia Duarte Town Council.
