California State Senator Ed Hernandez and Arcadia Mayor Pro Tem John Wuo, along with Chamber President Arylnn Robinson of Century 21 Earll each made presentations to this year’s Chamber Business Awards honorees July 18. The awards program, sponsored by Southern California Edison, attracted more than 65 attendees July 18 to the monthly Networking Breakfast, which is sponsored year-round by Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary.
Also making presentations to the four honorees (profiled below the following photo gallery) were representatives from the offices of Congresswoman Judy Chu, Assemblymember Ed Chau and County Supervisor Anthony Portantino.[flagallery gid=128]
Breakfast Chairman Rod Salazar of Stubbies Promotions hosted the program, which began with each attendee introducing themselves, followed by brief presentations from sponsor Rose Hills and Taste of Arcadia chairman Bruce McCallum. McCallum described the many new elements and deadlines for Taste of Arcadia pre-sale tickets and introduced Business Showcase at the Taste committee chair and co-chair Jerry Pavelec of Nancy Bond Insurance and Vicki Knight of Century Rooter Service and Plumbing, respectively. T.G. Metzger of State Farm Insurance summarized the new Monday Night Football Lounge and ticket purchase options for Taste.
Salazar asked Chamber CEO Scott Hettrick to introduce the award recipients and presentations by dignitaries. Following the presentations, as always, the breakfast ended with many attendees taking turns re-introducing themselves and their company as they presented many fun and very nice raffle prizes to winners whose business cards were drawn.
Business Person of the Year: Wayne Williams, Professional Advisory Services. Wayne is an active participant in multiple activities of the Chamber. He is on the Board of Directors and at this year’s Taste of Arcadia he will present the first classic car exhibit. Wayne’s company has been one of the Chamber’s primary advertisers in printed and email newletters and the website. He is also a sponsor of the 2013 Taste of Arcadia and Business Showcase at the Taste.
Business of the Year: Rose Hills Memorial Park & Mortuary, Bruce Lazenby. Rose Hills Memorial Park and Mortuary celebrates a century of service next year. In the past two years Rose Hills has become a supporter of numerous Arcadia community groups, along with sponsoring the Chamber’s monthly Networking Breakfasts, as well as sponsor of the Business Showcase at the Taste this year. Bruce Lazenby has been with Rose Hills for more than 30 years and is on the Chamber’s Board of Directors.
New Member of the Year: Jenny Tsa and Ivan Lai of Cruise Planners are based in San Gabriel Valley and are vacation planners who ensure you have access to exclusive benefits on your holiday trips. They participated in the 2012 Business Showcase where they obtained many sales leads. They both participate in many Chamber activities and Ivan is an active Chamber Ambassador. Their 15 years of experience helps one to get the most out of their travel investment.
Chamber Service Award: Jerry Dominguez, Printing Control, has been in business for more than 40 years, serving non-profits and commercial businesses in greater Los Angeles. Jerry’s business has received the Inc.500 magazine honor as one of the topo 500 fastest growing companies in America. Over the last several years he has directed his focus to local area non-profits. As soon as Jerry joined the Chamber he created the most elegant programs for the Chamber’s annual formal Citizen of the Year and Installation Dinner, and then produced a professional mailing to all Chamber members. Jerry is on the team for 2013 Taste as a sponsor of the Red Carpet.
