Celebrate “Arcadia Eats” with Arcadia Public Library
Join Arcadia Public Library for the second annual “Arcadia Eats” program, a month-long celebration of Arcadia’s culinary past and present. From October 1 to October 31, the Library will host a series of food-related events that highlights Arcadia’s amazing cuisine, past and present.
Starting October 1, the Library is proud to offer a “Then and Now “exhibit by artist John Martin in the Library Exhibit Hall. The watercolors and drawings in this display explore the memory of and nostalgia for growing up in Arcadia. They are also meant to examine the importance of place in eliciting memories. Martin, who grew up in Arcadia, has captured Arcadia’s past and present with beautiful renderings of Moffett’s, the iconic Bob’s Big Boy, Clearman’s Galley’s “The Boat,” Rod’s Grill, Anthony’s Italian Market, Burger Basket (Monrovia), Chez Sateau, Denny’s, Helmo’s Burgers, King Arthur’s, Peacock
Donuts, Pepper’s, Pie King, Taco Lita, Taco Treat, and Sir George’s Smorgasbord. On Wednesday, October 12, from 7 to 8 p.m., in the library’s Cay Mortenson Auditorium, he will discuss his artistic process and inspirations. This program is free and open to all.
On Saturday, October 8 and Saturday, October 22, Arcadia Eats will celebrate the library’s treasured collection of cookbooks published in Arcadia, by Arcadians. These two new videos offer original recipes on the library’s YouTube channel– they are sure to whet your appetite! This year Arcadia Eats is featuring Mandarin orange salad and Holiday Jell-O. Join us as we delve into the culinary delights found in Arcadia Public Library’s special collection of locally published cookbooks and archives.
