A big thank you to Luis Plascencia, General Manager of DoubleTree by Hilton Monrovia-Pasadena.
Last Thursday Luis generously offered to provide 20 key Taste of Arcadia support volunteers a wonderful evening to relax poolside outside the fun Elements restaurant with terrific food and beverages provided as we listened to some live jazz music. It allowed the Chamber to say thanks while also supporting a Chamber member.
It was a wonderful gesture and a great way for 20 outgoing Chamber members to experience firsthand what a terrific place Luis runs. You can bet that message will be spread by word-of-mouth and with electronic thank yous like this one here and on Facebook and Twitter.
Less than 72 hours later I happened to be back at the Doubletree again for a Jewish Federation awards brunch for Mickey Segal. This event was in a ballroom at the hotel, which was as perfect as the brunch food was delicious.

Wow, what a day and what a weekend of activities!
That same Thursday that ended with the terrific reception at Doubletree included the following:
- The Chamber’s monthly Networking Breakfast at the Sunset Room of the Santa Anita Golf Course, which included an informative presentation about The Cloud by our Chamber IT service provider IT Systemhouse, as well as presentations of nearly $2,000 in donations from the Chamber to local groups who helped sell tickets to Taste of Arcadia.
- Lunch presentation by City Manager Dominic Lazzaretto on the patio of the Gilb Museum of Arcadia Heritage about the evolution of the City administration of Arcadia.
- Performing Arts Center ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4:30 p.m., which showed off the magnificent new facility to hundreds of supporters and dignitaries.
- Red carpet appearance at Westfield Santa Anita mall from 5 p.m. – 6: 30 p.m where Chamber was a sponsor of the opening night of the Pan Pacific Film Festival at Dave & Buster’s and AMC Santa Anita 16.
- The Taste of Arcadia volunteers reception at Doubletree from 6:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
- Student showcase of performances at the new Performing Arts Center by Arcadia High School band, orchestra and drama students.
- World premiere at 8:30 p.m. of Crossroad movie at Pan Pacific Film Festival.
Then there was the 626 Night Market that we attended on Saturday evening — we gotta figure out how the Chamber can capitalize on the crowds that went to that event – and the awards brunch on Sunday.
Just another weekend in Arcadia.
