EWD Pulse Newsletter – LA Infrastructure Do-Over: 2026
Looking back a year ago on this date, we could not contemplate the devastation that was just around the corner. Now that the fires have been quelled and most of the debris swept away, the region is focused on the rebuilding phase. In all cases, experts are evaluating what went wrong and determining how to redesign community assets to avoid those losses while protecting the rebuilt infrastructure.
Looking forward, lessons learned from the fires are also informing workforce development practices, as new systems will require advanced materials and, often, digital programming to function properly. As the State looks to be prepared for the 2028 Olympics, it is also building a workforce that can manage these new tools while also helping the City recover economically.
You can also check out today’s Podcast, where Pasadena Mayor Victor Gordo discusses his office’s inputs into the connection between future disasters and a well trained workforce. And at The EWD Pulse website, you’ll find resources that help to put these issues in context with other LA and regional crises that have come and gone. Thanks for reading.
