LA Fire Justice presents Ashes & Echoes
Ashes and Echoes Exhibition Overview
Ashes and Echoes will present an immersive, multimedia exhibition featuring curated segments from the 49 oral-history interviews conducted with community members affected by the Eaton Fire.Pasadena-based documentary filmmaker Hrag Yedalian and Timme Mackie, the creative collaborator have taken the lead in creating this exhibit. This four-day exhibit is hosted at the centrally located Pasadena Civic Auditorium. The exhibition will utilize large-format screens, ambient sound design, and dynamic visual storytelling to bring these narratives to life. Visitors will experience deeply personal accounts of what Altadena and Pasadena mean to the participants, how the fires reshaped their lives, and heartfelt messages of hope and resilience directed to the broader community.
Project BackgroundThe Eaton Fire was a tragedy unlike anything San Gabriel Valley and to a broader extent, Southern California had ever experienced. In its aftermath, Ashes and Echoes was created to document and preserve the stories of residents, business owners, community leaders, and families who lived through the devastation. This project ensures their voices—and the lessons they share—will endure for generations.
Launched in mid-2025, the project has already completed 49 in-depth interviews with individuals directly impacted by the fires. Each interview captures a unique perspective, helping form a collective narrative about loss, recovery, community strength, and the ongoing path to rebuilding.
Ashes and Echoes is a project sponsored by the team at LA Fire Justice, who believes preserving the history of the Eaton Fire Suriviors and capturing the real-life stories of what happened on January 7, 2025 is critical.
