The SGV Water Supply Tour Was a Success!
On June 28, Upper Water, in partnership with local water agencies, hosted a tour for Assemblymember Blanca Rubio, Assemblymember Juan Carrillo and Assemblymember Mike Fong and legislative staff to highlight the San Gabriel Valley’s water supply. The tour highlighted the operations of Three Valleys Municipal Water District, San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District, Upper Water, the Main San Gabriel Basin Watermaster and the San Gabriel Basin Water Quality Authority.
Participants also toured Morris Dam and received an overview of flood control management from LA County Public Works. Additionally, the group toured the Congressman David Dreier Treatment Facility and learned about water quality and treatment in the Basin.

The tour was a great success and highlighted the operational efficiency of the region and educating our elected representatives on local water policy issues.
Celebrating Student Success: Last Month’s Standout Stories🏆📚
At last month’s Board of Directors meeting, the Upper Water Board of Directors and staff proudly celebrated Mr. Michael Naka’s class at Garvey Intermediate School in Rosemead for winning this year’s Water Engineering 4 Good competition by MWD, as well as the 20 student art contest winners of the 2026 “Being Water Wise Is…” Art Contest.
The Garvey Mustangs created an innovative prototype called Save-a-Drop Geoff, a device that connects to a showerhead to measure water flow and calculate total usage. Using simple adapters, the students were able to connect the device directly to a showerhead and track water use that encourages water awareness by tracking gallons used per shower.
The Board also recognized 20 student art contest winners at the June 25th meeting. Each winner received a certificate honoring their artwork and monetary award to support their artistic pursuits. Their creativity and commitment to water conservation left a strong impression on the Board and serve as an ongoing inspiration to the community. Congratulations to all the winners!
