Barger Spotlights “Resilient Rebuilding” Virtual Workshop for L.A. Wildfire Survivors
Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger is spotlighting an upcoming no cost virtual rebuilding workshop hosted by Los Angeles County Public Works on Saturday, June 28, from 10:00 a.m. to noon.
The workshop will introduce the Resilient Rebuilding Resource Guide—a digital toolkit to help property owners and building professionals design and construct homes that are safer, more energy-efficient, and better prepared for future fire risks.
“This workshop is about giving people real tools, support, and a sense of hope,” said Supervisor Kathryn Barger. “I’m hoping wildfire survivors tune in and take advantage of guidance Los Angeles County engineering and building professionals are offering to help our communities rebuild stronger, safer, and with the future in mind.”
Workshop presenters will review how to plan code-compliant, fire-resilient buildings and how to apply fire-wise strategies during the design phase. Workshop participants will also learn how to access rebates, incentives, and financing tools.
The Resilient Rebuilding Resource Guide provides smart design choices that make buildings safer, more energy-efficient, and more affordable over time. It covers things like fire-resistant materials, solar power, EV readiness, and practical ways to build stronger from the start.
The guide also explains critical terms, including Chapter 7A codes and Fire Hazard Severity Zones, and includes support for retrofitting existing homes—not just rebuilding.
“This event is part of Los Angeles County’s ongoing effort to help communities rebuild stronger,” remarked Supervisor Barger. “I hope wildfire survivors take advantage of this opportunity and put all the good information that’s available to use.”
